Bubaqra is situated on the southeast outskirts of Żurrieq and the church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built after the plague of 1676; it was enlarged in 1961. The church replaced two small 1490 chapels which were demolished; one dedicated to St Sebastian and the other to St Roque. It contains a 1599 painting of St Roque, a votive offering from the Italian artist Giovanni Battista Riccio (1537-1627), who had survived the 1592-3 Maltese plague. Nearby is the cemetery church of St. Leon, which has a painting said to come from the former chapel on Filfla Island.
